THINGS TO DO ON CAPE COD

Cape Cod is a magical place. We hope you enjoy your visit!

Dennis

One of our favorite places on the Cape is the Sesuit Harbor Cafe. They have the absolute best lobster roll (and oysters!). FYI, it is cash only but they have an ATM. While talking about their lobster rolls, we have to mention the cafe’s boat named the Lobster Roll. It’s an awesome time for drinks, food, and views! Book your tickets in advance!

Besides the Sesuit Harbor Cafe, here are a few restaurants we recommend in or near Dennis.

Old Yarmouth Inn

The Marshside

Grumpy’s (for brunch)

  • Provincetown

All of you have heard of Provincetown at the tip of Cape Cod (where the Pilgrims first landed before they headed to Plymouth due to bad weather!) There is so much to see here and so much to eat! It’s a wonderful town and there are tons of great local art stores and galleries (and an amazing LGBTQ scene!). You will be surrounded by water right and left! As a side note, there is a Pilgrim’s Monument commemorating the site where the Pilgrims first landed and if you look carefully on a clear day you can see it from Spalding’s deck.

While in Provincetown, many people love to go whale watching. You never know what you might see! A little closer to our home is whale watching in Barnstable Harbor if that’s what is of interest to you.

  • Wellfleet

If you love oysters, head to Wellfleet (yes, as in Wellfleet oysters!) It’s a little out on the Cape but worth the drive! Have lunch at the Bookstore (and, yes, we recommend the fried oyster sandwich!) Top your day off with a spectacular walk on the Cape Cod National Seashore which is just out of town on a short drive with plenty of parking. Lots of different hikes available. And the town of Wellfleet is filled with many shops and great art galleries. (Buy jewelry!)

All of the Cape Cod National Seashore is fabulous. The history dates back to John F. Kennedy’s Presidency when he asked Congess to declare this as a national seashore. Many believe this was he most important part of his residency (but maybe they were from Cape Cod!) Lots of ways to explore and view this national treasure.

  • Chatham

Closer to our home is Chatham which is quintessentially Cape Cod. It’s a beautiful historic town which hosts the famous Chatham Bars and Inn. It’s worth a drive by on your way to the famous Chatham lighthouse but also worth a stop for lunch, dinner or a drink.

  • Cape Cod Rail Trail

All the guide books include the Cape Cod Rail Trail which is a long, winding and well marked bike trail. It is based on the old railroad tracks where the trains used to take the harvested cranberries back to town. You can get your exercise and local scenery all in one!
